In the days of the Clipper Ships, when coffee beans from Malabar were transported to Europe, the precious cargo was exposed to the harsh conditions on the high seas, battered by waves and bathed in humidity and unrelenting heat. What began as a deep, jade-green bean usually ended its journey as a yellowish, pale green bean. The Europeans loved it! More efficient, contemporary transportation might have spelled the demise of this wonderful bean, but now these particular grade A beans are now artificially “monsooned” to replicate the wild days of the treacherous sea journeys. This is a cause for celebration – deep and smooth in the cup, our Monsooned Malabar is a mellow coffee with just a dash of nuts and spices.
